33" wide x 41" long tapestry with wood dowel sewn into top and bottom of artwork.
Picture is of a house in green, yellow, dark green/gray against a night sky with a crescent moon at the side. Color is vivid on both sides of fabric. Fabric print is slightly stiff and waxy.
Picture has a gothic look to it. Very MCM midcentury looking!
Janice Cline is an artist in Baltimore, Maryland of batik fiber/textile art.
Batik print is a traditional wax-resist dyeing technique used to create intricate patterns on fabric, where hot wax is applied to areas that should remain undyed, then the fabric is dyed, and the wax is later removed by boiling. This process, popular in Indonesia, India, and other parts of Asia, results in unique, handcrafted designs, often with fine crackled lines where the wax has broken, revealing the base color beneath layers of dye.
