Art Deco Faceted Czech Black Glass Venetian Wedding Cake Bead Sautoir Necklace
This lovely black sautoir necklace consists of a very long beaded necklace, terminating in two beaded tassels dangling from the end. This style was developed around the turn of the 19th century and experienced a revival in the early 1900s and continued in popularity through the 1920s with "flapper" necklaces. This example consists of three wonderful wedding cake beads with pink, gold, yellow and white added colors. It is 31 inches long and has an additional 4.25-inch tassel. Excellent Condition. Circa: 1925
The beads: Fiorato beads (wedding cake) start on a copper wire with glass that forms a round bead. The centuries old process starts with the opaque bead and is then decorated involving glitter, squiggles and rosebuds. There are as many variations in theme but there are Venetian wedding cake from the island of Murano.
