Si tratta di una medaglia papale di Pio IX (1846-1878). Il rovescio raffigura l'Ospedale dei Dementi (manicomio) alla Lungara a Roma. Coniata nel 1866, Anno XXI del pontificato. Opera dell'incisore Giuseppe Bianchi. Realizzata in argento. L'iscrizione recita che l'ospedale per i malati di mente è stato restaurato e ampliato per il loro beneficio.
