This is a vintage Companion hand crank drill, commonly known as an "egg beater" style drill due to the cranking mechanism. It is a type of hand tool, not a kitchen utensil or a screwdriver, although specific screwdriver bits could be used with it. The Companion brand name was used by Sears, Roebuck & Co. Companion tools were a lower-priced, value-oriented line, positioned as a more cost-effective option compared to Sears' premium Craftsman brand.
The Companion name was an early brand for Sears tools, starting around 1933. While the name was replaced by the Dunlap brand for machinery in 1941. This type of tool is designed for manually drilling holes, utilizing a chuck to hold various bits. It is from an estate sale and is in working condition which is great for one this old.
