Aztec "Sun Stone" or Piedra del Sol.
The original stone, found in Mexico City in 1790, is a massive basalt sculpture depicting calendrical symbols.
The central figure is believed to represent the sun deity Tonatiuh or the earth god Tlaltecuhtli.
The ring surrounding the center includes the 20 day signs of the 260-day ritual calendar, known as the tonalpōhualli.
The Aztec calendar system, shared with other regional cultures like the Maya, used both a 260-day ritual cycle and a 365-day solar calendar, which interlocked to form a 52-year "century".
