Vintage Westmoreland milk glass hen on a nest covered candy or trinket dish. She is a perfect example of the original hen craze!
The dish is made of white milk glass with a red painted comb on the hen's head. Measures 7 1/2” long and 6” wide at base.
This style of dish is also known as an animal dish or a hen in a basket.
Westmoreland Glass Company, founded in 1889, was a major producer of high-quality milk glass from the 1920s to the 1950s.
The official name "hen on a nest" was coined by Westmoreland in the 1930s.
The dish typically has a "W" stamp in the glass on the inside or underside of the base
