Traveling Man Treasures is selling this beautifully hand-carved wooden vessel from the Nupe people of North Central Nigeria. The piece is intact and in good late antique or early vintage condition.
These types of vessels are used by the Nupe people to collect beans, nuts, and grains. They are carried over the back using a rope laced through the carved handle. The Nupe people have lived along the banks of the Niger River since the 15th century. Their artwork is mostly utilitarian, being both beautiful and useful.
